The raw food diet is a diet plan which is based on uncooked and unprocessed plant foods.
These include items like seeds, nuts, grains, sprouts, beans, dried fruits, seaweeds, fruits and vegetables herbs and spices etc. The raw food diet is a detox diet which cleanses the body and removes the toxins.
The raw food diet is used because research has revealed that cooking food above 116 degrees F destroys the enzymes contained in food. These enzymes are highly beneficial as they aid in absorption of food and also improve digestion. As cooking may diminish the nutritional value of food, the raw food diet is used.
The raw food diet is plant based and indicates that at least 75% of the food taken must be living or raw. This diet is very different from the Western diet and is extremely healthy for people. Many nutritionists have approved of the raw food diet as it is based on natural foods instead of processed foods.
There are numerous advantages associated with the raw food diet. The overall health of a person improves. Risk of various diseases like heart disease is reduced. As the raw food diet comprises of natural plants, it results in an improved skin appearance, better digestion and provides people with more energy for daily activities.
But the best advantage offered to people by the raw food diet is that it is also helpful in attaining weight loss. The raw food diet is vastly different than the Western diet and therefore comprises of little carbohydrates and is made up of mono saturated fats. This is useful in losing weight.
The raw food diet contains almost no Trans fat or saturated fats and is low in sodium. However, it is high in magnesium, fiber, potassium, folate and phytochemicals. This combination reduces the chances oh heart disease as it lowers the cholesterol levels, some types of cancer and diabetes.  
The downside of the raw food diet is that it is difficult to sustain especially in recent times when the concept of fast food is so common. It is difficult to break habits. In some cases people might suffer detoxification effects when they switch from meat to fruits and vegetables. These symptoms include nausea, headaches, cravings etc.
Overall this diet is a very healthy one which is beneficial for the body and relaxes the mind. Nonetheless, a doctor’s advice is imperative before switching to the raw food diet
